What the class actually does

A spell-driven archetype using lightning, poison creatures, spiders, ravens, thorns and a temporary feline transformation.

The table below covers the six abilities Blizzard described in its preview. It records targeting, movement and interaction rules rather than assigning invented cooldowns, damage percentages or talent ranks.

AbilityPublished behavior
Brewing StormA sequence of three lightning attacks, with a stronger final strike.
Bubbling CauldronRelease frogs that leap toward random enemies and explode, dealing poison damage in small areas.
Feline CommunionTemporarily become a cat while stars damage nearby enemies. The form permits Crooked Path, a forward moonlit blink.
Winter SpidersSend a swarm forward with a brood mother that explodes for area damage.
Moonlight RavensChannel while moving to send ravens seeking nearby enemies and dealing damage.
ThornsErupt thorns beneath the two nearest enemies.

How the kit fits together

How the kit fits together
InteractionPractical meaning
Feline Communion and Crooked PathFeline Communion changes your state and allows the Crooked Path blink while stars damage nearby enemies. The transformation is more than a differently colored attack button; its available movement action changes too.
Moonlight Ravens and movementThe raven channel can be used while moving. That lets positioning continue during the action, unlike a cast that requires you to remain planted.
Frogs, spiders and target controlBubbling Cauldron’s frogs seek random enemies and explode; the spider swarm includes an explosive brood mother. Their targeting differs from choosing a precise isolated enemy.
Thorns and proximityThe published target rule uses the two nearest enemies. Moving changes which targets qualify, rather than making the effect a freely targeted ground area.

Control and survival

Do not assume that continuous summoned damage permanently locks normal enemies down. The PTR help explicitly notes exceptions where periodic or summon damage does not stagger or stun. Read yellow casts, grey protected casts and control immunity directly instead of treating a busy screen as proof that the enemies cannot act.

Interviewing WoW Developers on all things Talebound, Astalor, Xalatath, Season 3 and THE SWORD?!

Artemir interviews WoW developers about Talebound and the wider Midnight update. Useful for design intent and the horror-class inspirations; the discussion also covers Astalor, Xal’atath and Season 3, so it is not a focused combat tutorial.

Frequently asked questions

Does Thorns use a freely selected ground location?

The published rule places thorns beneath the two nearest enemies. Position therefore influences which enemies qualify.

Can Moonlight Ravens channel while moving?

Yes. Blizzard explicitly describes movement being allowed during the raven channel.

Is Feline Communion a universal immunity?

The announcement establishes the transformation, nearby star damage and the Crooked Path blink. It does not establish a universal damage immunity.
