Identify a consumable before treating it as a fixed ability
The PTR help describes unidentified potions and scrolls scattered through tales. Identification reveals the item’s effect. Lilywhistle Bottledrop’s Arcanist service expands the formulas you can recognize and improves the potency of your consumables.
That is why a familiar-looking potion icon should not be treated as evidence that every new item has your preferred healing effect. Formula identification and effect strength are separate parts of the system.
How Alkahest connects use to progression
The inspected Arcanist screenshot states that drinking a potion or reading a scroll grants Alkahest. The service then uses Alkahest to improve potion and scroll potency. This is a concrete resource loop: finding and using consumables feeds future consumable improvements.

Reported scroll effects in the October 25 overview
| Scroll | Reported PTR effect | Important scope |
|---|---|---|
| Hide from Sight | A friendly target is hidden for one minute. | Not a verified universal immunity effect. |
| Curse | An enemy takes 25% increased damage for 30 seconds. | The target and duration belong to the report, not a final live balance claim. |
| Scroll of Power | Deal 20% more damage during the next boss fight. | A next-boss condition, not an established permanent Power increase. |
| Scroll of Weakness | An enemy deals 20% less damage. | The overview does not establish every duration or stacking rule. |
| Scroll of Defense | Take 10% less damage during the next boss fight. | Do not add this to Guard or another reduction without a verified combination rule. |

Read the condition before combining consumables
The table is an attributed October 25 PTR overview, not a current live formula database. Its next-boss effects and timed effects are different conditions. Check the identified item on your client, and avoid calculating a combined multiplier from two percentages when stacking has not been tested.
Consumables and your other resource pools
Energy returns over time, while Focus ordinarily needs an external recovery source. A consumable that restores one is not interchangeable with a consumable that restores the other. Health also lacks an ordinary passive refill, so healing remains distinct from the Barrier that returns out of combat.
The source lists the kinds of effects available in the preview. It does not establish one fixed potion build, exact duration for every formula, or which consumables are optimal on every difficulty.
